- Gary Carter
- Harold Dilley
- Jimmy Hatfield
- Bill Phillis
- In 2010, the average Sunday morning worship attendance was 190.
- The family of God that meets here strives to be faithful to Scripture, warm to visitors, caring to our community, and reaching out with God’s plan of salvation to souls around the world.
- From the pulpit and the classroom, our interest is that Christ be presented in Bible-centered lessons. Sound biblical teaching is presented in a spirit of love, both in the pulpit and in our Bible classes.
Programs of Work
- Alkire Road has an active, productive program of caring for the needy and sick, including feeding the homeless, and helping the aged, orphaned and widowed.
- Meals are prepared and taken to shut-ins or those who are ill or bereaved.
- Our older members — the “Golden Alkires” — meet together on a Tuesday morning at 10:00am for Bible studies, singing, and other activities.
- Our youth are encouraged with organized fellowship programs and classes dedicated to their needs. In the Summer months we visit different congregations on a Monday evening as part of our Good News for Youth program. A significant number of children, teens, and adults spend a week at Fort Hill Christian Youth Camp.
- In January or February of each year, at least one group from Alkire Road and sister congregations travel to Costa Rica for a week of evangelistic work.
- Our primary mission is to preach Christ and to save souls. We pray that our efforts will be spiritually uplifting and informative.
History
- On Sunday, September 24, 1961, thirty-one Christians and their children began meeting for worship services at the John Burroughs School. This marked the beginning of a new congregation of the Lord’s church.
- In January 1963, a former theater building was purchased and remodeled. The first worship service in this new facility began on Sunday, June 2, 1963. The congregation became known as the Sullivant Avenue church of Christ.
- In July 1968, a young man from Warren, Ohio – Emanuel B. Daugherty – became the first located preacher. He and his family were to stay with the congregation for the next 20 years.
- In 1976, the church sold the Sullivant Avenue building. Property was purchased on Alkire Road, and ground breaking ceremonies for the new building were held in March 1977. Six months later, on August 29, 1977, we held our first worship services in the new building with 208 people present.
- In September 1981, elders were appointed to oversee the work.
- In 1989, Emanuel Daughtery and his wife left the work at Alkire Road.
- In January of 1989, William Renner began preaching for the Alkire Road congregation. In 1993, William Renner left the work at Alkire Road.
- In 1993, the current puplit minister – Mark Bass – along with his wife, Joanne, and children, Bonnie and Michael, moved from Metropolis, Illinois to work with the Alkire Road congregation.
