Second Language
Here at Alkire Road, the Lads-to-Leaders Second Language event has the following goals:
- challenge students to add Biblical vocabulary to their existing knowledge of languages other than English
- challenge students to learn Bible verses that might be used with native speakers of that language
- encourage students to think about outreach opportunities to different language communities, both in the U.S. and in other countries
Instructions:
- group leaders, students, parents, and mentors should read the relevant pages from the current Lads-to-Leaders Rules Book
- all Bronze level students must be checked off on their common phrases (Section One) and Bible passages (Section Two) by a designated mentor
- mentors should notify the Group Leader when students have completed both sections of the event
- students are not required to memorize and recite all phrases and passages in one sitting; they may memorize and recite one phrase or passage at a time
Resources:
- download documents for Bronze level showing English and Spanish in parallel (English/Spanish), and English and French in parallel (English/French)
- download audio readings of Bible verses in Spanish (Spanish audio, except Eccl. 12:13) and French (French audio) — after downloading, you will need to unzip these files on to your computer or portable mp3 player.
- website with text and audio of the Bible in multiple languages: wordproject.org
- Google Translate can be used for basic translation work and pronunciation
